Patient Responsibilities
Basic Rights and Responsibilities for All Patients
- You have all the rights of a citizen of the United States of America.
- You have the right to be presumed mentally competent unless a court has ruled otherwise.
- You have the right to a clean and humane environment in which you are protected from harm, have privacy with regard to personal needs, and are treated with respect and dignity.
- You have the right to appropriate treatment in the least restrictive appropriate setting available.
- You have the right to be free from mistreatment, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- You have the right to be fully informed of all services available to you, and told in advance of all estimated charges being made, the cost of services provided by the hospital, sources of the program's reimbursement, and any limitations on length of services known to the hospital.
- You have the right to refuse to perform any service for the facility, or for other patients, unless they are a part of your therapeutic plan of treatment, which you have approved.
- You have the right to fair compensation for labor performed for the hospital in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Prior to admission, you have the right to be informed of all hospital rules and regulations concerning your conduct and course of treatment.
